GVB Foundation

Helping women reclaim their lives after trauma.

The Garrett Viera Bivens Foundation, the philanthropic initiative of Dr. Anna Cabeca, supports organizations and individuals on the front lines of trauma recovery for women and children worldwide.

Some journeys begin in
unimaginable darkness.

The Reality

For many women, trauma doesn't just wound, it severs. It depletes the body's capacity for connection, for trust and, more crucially, for hope. It can collapse your health, your relationships, your sense of self, sometimes all at once. And the hardest part is that it often leaves you believing you have to face it alone.

But darkness does not have to be the end of the story.

Recovery begins when someone chooses to care.

What trauma dismantles, compassion rebuilds.

Slowly, deliberately, and with the kind of unwavering

presence that tells a woman her story isn’t over.

Our Story

Standing behind the organizations on the front lines of healing.

Established in loving memory of Garrett Viera Bivens — September 8, 2004 – March 12, 2006 — the Foundation is dedicated to funding and supporting institutions that help women and children recover from trauma. Guided by firsthand understanding of what healing requires, we partner with organizations whose approach is evidence-based, compassionate, and built for lasting impact.

By strengthening those who serve on the front lines, we help create opportunities for healing, restoration, and new beginnings.

Proof of Hope

From Survival

to new beginnings

Centro Cristiano Fruto de la Vid,

in Puerto Rico

A faith-based community organization rooted in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, Centro Cristiano Fruto de la Vid has served as a center of family restoration and community support across the island. Following Hurricane Maria, their on-the-ground presence made them a vital partner in reaching families in the hardest-hit areas of Puerto Rico.

“In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, as Puerto Rico’s heartland was left without access to basic necessities, the GVB Foundation stepped in with purpose. They funded the rebuild, filled over 50 backpacks with essential supplies, and sent a team to hand-deliver them directly to children in need. In a time of hardship, they brought hope.”

House of Hope,

in Georgia

House of Hope formerly a 501(c)3 faith-based therapeutic safe house- provided access to mental health support, structured programs, and daily guidance-helping girls build stability and transition toward independent living.

“When I arrived, I refused everything. Getting out of bed felt impossible. I look back now and I can see how far I’ve come. Every single person there — staff and girls alike — helped me grow into who I am today. They made a huge difference in my life.”

Equest,

in Texas

Founded in 1981, Equest is the first therapeutic horsemanship center in Texas — partnering horses with children, adults, and veterans facing physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. For over four decades, they’ve proven that healing can happen in the most unexpected ways.

“Horses don’t judge. For women who have spent years feeling unseen or unsafe, that presence alone can be the beginning of healing.”
